The seven traditional chakras form the foundation of the human energetic system.
They describe how consciousness moves through the body, from survival and sensation, to will, love, expression, perception, and ultimately awareness itself.
These centers originate in classical yogic and tantric traditions, where the chakras are understood as psycho-energetic gateways linking body, mind, and spirit. They map the human experience of embodiment, how we live, feel, relate, and perceive reality.
Later esoteric traditions—particularly Theosophical teachings, modern energy anatomy, and post-classical kundalini frameworks—expanded this map beyond the physical body. From these systems emerges what is often called the 8th chakra, a transpersonal center located above the crown, associated with soul awareness, collective consciousness, and integration beyond personal identity.
First chakra — Root (Muladhara)
Second chakra — Sacral (Svadhisthana)
Third chakra — Solar Plexus (Manipura)
Fourth chakra — Heart (Anahata)
Fifth chakra — Throat (Vishuddha)
Sixth chakra — Third Eye (Ajna)
Seventh chakra — Crown (Sahasrara)
Eighth chakra — Soul Star (beyond the crown)
